First pre-prototype look at my first indie game "The Seasons Of Fantasy". The game has 3 playable protagonists (two of which are in the pictures) named Dira, Ziyyk (the companion dragon on Dira's back), and Timmon (you can look at my earlier works to find concept art of him). My game is a liminal RPG, Roguelike, Metroidvania mystery experience in a not entirely 2.5D nor standard third person experience. I am blending genre's and styles to create something really unique that takes inspiration from Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Little Nightmares, Kingdom Come Deliverance, The Witcher, and other similar games. Throughout the story you will uncover the mysteries of the world and what lead to an entire civilization's disappearance and a cosmic bang, thousands of years prior (in our current time) that mutated everyone and everything and awoke many magical properties.
The reason our time is thousands of years in the past is because the cosmic bang halted time and progression thus leaving the universe in a state of limbo where they are in the future but it looks like the past. In the sky and around the world you will encounter purple shards that are fractures of the universe and world. These shards contribute to the "magical radiation" that both maintains and destroys the world. It is the players job to either restore balance or wreak havoc. There is a day/night cycle, dynamically changing fog, and an in-progress choice system that will give the player at least 2 dialogue options during NPC and enemy encounters. One choice will lead to a positive result like gaining respect or an increase in an ability or health while the other will lead to losing respect and not harming the player but harming the world. If the player continues to make negative and destructive choices, the world will change. It will be become darker, enemies will become more aggressive or more afraid of you, depending on the type, and although there is a pre-determined narrative - the player controls the story of the world through the gameplay and events.
As I am working on this by myself, the assets are a mix of Quixel, free Epic packs, and my own in each category, including animations and I have been building the environment in an entirely original way. Next step is to add civilians and creatures and of course continue to work on the world. These previews are only close to be indicative of how the final version this one area will look. If you look at my concept map, you'll see I have a big plan to separate the world into several sections, each with their own deep exploration, characters, and mysteries.
The prototype will include gameplay footage of the completed combat and at least 1 boss encounter as well as other enemies and scripted events. Once I reach that stage the game will be listed on Steam and other platforms with a TBD release date as well as put on IndieGoGo for any potential funding but the game is releasing either way.
